Soul Mentor
Soul Mentor is a counseling and support service predicated on a deep-seated faith in three sacred principles:
- The first of these principles is that each of us is meant to be living out an ever-evolving story of mythic and archetypal proportions, the story called one's Personal Mythology.The second is that one's Personal Mythology reflects a destiny and life purpose that was mapped out for each of us by our souls before we were born.
- The third is that we can only recognize our Personal Mythology by consciously understanding and transforming the old myths we inherited as children from our parents and our culture.
Understanding your Personal Mythology is fundamental if you wish to understand your Life Purpose, the ultimate reason why you are here on earth. Having such a sense of Life Purpose can lead to insights about your true vocation, the work you were called to do in this lifetime.Recognizing and honoring the power of one's Personal Mythology is also particularly important at those critical Life Passages that usher each of us into Early Adulthood, then into Midlife, and finally into Elderhood. Indeed, much of the disorientation and confusion that are experienced during these life passages can be greatly eased by looking at them in a larger mythological and archetypal context.Finally, through a conscious recognition of the particular archetypes guiding your life, you can discover an invaluable doorway to a more personal experience of the Sacred. As a result, an understanding of your Personal Mythology can provide a foundation for the development of truly meaningful approaches to Personal Spirituality and Soulwork. The work of Soul Mentor combines techniques from ancient sacred traditions with contemporary approaches evolved by modern psychologists and mythologists. Inspired by the work of the mythologist Joseph Campbell, Soul Mentor draws on the idea of the consciously lived life as Hero or Heroine's Journey. Equally deeply influenced by the work of the psychologist Carl Jung, Soul Mentor incorporates such techniques as Jungian dreamwork, active imagination, and shadow-work. Also based on the work of Jung, Soul Mentor helps clients explore the archetypal themes and energies at work in the stories of their lives. Finally, drawing inspiration from the work of James Hillman and Thomas Moore, Soul Mentor focuses on the care of the soul as well as on the nourishment of the spirit.
I have a doctorate in mythological studies and world sacred tradition as viewed from the perspective of depth psychology.
